Faster doesn't equal better; this realization was a significant shift for me as a former racer. In my early days on the track, speed was everything. The thrill of crossing the finish line first often overshadowed the deeper aspects of riding. However, becoming a parent transformed my approach to both riding and life.
As I navigated the challenges of parenthood, I learned the importance of patience and mindfulness—qualities that are essential for a successful ride. The frantic pace I once embraced was replaced by a more thoughtful and measured approach. I began to appreciate not just the destination but the journey itself.
Riding became a metaphor for parenting; both require balance, focus, and a deep understanding of one’s limits. I found that by embracing a slower, more deliberate style, I improved my skills and connection with my bike. The lessons learned from parenting have not only made me a better rider but also enriched my overall experience on the road.
