‘We both struggled for three years’: Kajol on the ‘irrational’ phase of parenting Gen Z daughter Nysa Devgan and the one change that saved their bond

Bollywood actress Kajol recently opened up about a turbulent phase in her relationship with her Gen Z daughter, Nysa Devgan, describing it as an "irrational" period that tested their bond for three years. In a candid conversation, the star admitted that parenting a teenager came with unexpected challenges, particularly when it came to communication.

"We both struggled for three years," Kajol revealed. She explained that the conflict stemmed from a clash of perspectives, where she felt her advice was being ignored while Nysa felt misunderstood. The turning point, according to Kajol, was a simple but difficult shift in her own behavior: she stopped lecturing and started listening.

The actress noted that teenagers, especially those raised in the digital age, often perceive constant guidance as criticism. Instead of offering solutions, she learned to sit with Nysa's frustrations without immediately jumping in to fix them. "The one change that saved our bond was just shutting up and hearing her out," she said.

Kajol emphasized that parenting Gen Z requires patience and a willingness to let go of the need to be right. She admitted that the phase was exhausting but ultimately rewarding, as it forced her to grow alongside her daughter. The experience, she added, taught her that love sometimes means stepping back and trusting the process.
